KCSE Curricula & Entry Requirements.
KCSE is the second examination phase in the Kenyan 8-4-4 education system
It is reputable because it gives students a broad understanding of everyday life. Its curricula encompass humanities and sciences that are relevant to the social, economic and political spheres of life. The curricula are in-depth in nature and prompt learners to be self-disciplined, organized and thorough.
Further, because the system is grades based it develops students to be self-motivated knowledgeable individuals. Also, the system is exam-focused and is recognized the world over.
Many parents who choose the KCSE route at County Girls -Nairobi do so because they want their children to benefit from the system’s rigorous training. They appreciate that the broad curricula give students a lot of options to decide what to specialize in once in college.
The program takes four years. It ends with the final assessment: The KCSE exam done in form four which tests students' theory and practical knowledge of subjects covered.
Departments
Our academics are grouped into 5 departments.
MathematicsMathematics
ScienceScience
LanguagesLanguages
The languages department in comprises teachers from two compulsory subjects namely English and Kiswahili. The department has 3 English teachers and 5 Kiswahili teachers.
The department focuses at achieving a dream mean of 7 and above in both subjects at KCSE. To achieve this, the members embrace consultations with one another, sacrifice and teamwork in implementation of the curriculum. In addition, they embrace dedication to the task and a high level of integrity. These strategies have been the seedbed to the continued fair performance over the years with both Kiswahili and English registering improvement in means at KCSE.
In God we trust to realize our set targets.

HumanitiesHumanities
Humanities are very important study areas because they deal with human aspects that is our cultural heritage and that of other societies, empathy and values), which fundamentally is what the earth is made of.
The department offers 4 subjects in the school i.e.:
- Christian Religious Education (CRE)
- History
- Geography and
- Islamic Religious Education (IRE)
There are currently 8 teachers in the department who work closely as a team. Over the years, the department has seen a rise in their performance due to the team work, hard work and support given by the school administration, more so the B.O.M, the Principal and the Deputy Principal.
In our department, CRE and IRE are compulsory subjects and learners study one of the two subjects throughout their four-year course. In Form 2, the learner either chooses to study History or Geography based on her personal interest and the course of her preference. At this point, the learner is guided by the parent and the subject teacher in collaboration with the Career Department in the school.
Our average K.C.S.E target in 2024 in the subjects is 7.0 and beyond.
Our vision is to have more students performing better and getting straight ‘A’s in the four subjects for the success of their careers. More so, to have girls who are critical thinkers, creative and innovative learners who have moral values. Girls having strong social responsibility, respect for and conservation of the environment, all these in a bid to make the world a better place.
To secure a rich educational environment, the department acknowledges the importance of team spirit and work among its 8 members, team spirit among learners, and between the subject teacher and learner.
Quick and thorough completion of the syllabus, group discussions and Random Assessment Tests (RATs) are some of the strategies (to mention but a few) that we have embarked on as a department to realize our full potential.
The earth deals with human aspects, and so is the importance of teaching Humanities in schools.
God bless County Girls’ High School-Nairobi.
